This was posted this evening as a comment, and made us go “hmmmm”;

One thing that I’ve been dwelling on since Divine’s win is… I wonder if Pride is aware that Divine Lee is transitioning to become a woman herself. This fact isn’t know by many but her closest friends and family, but how will Pride adapt to this year’s Ms. Gay R.I begin her path to live each day more as Ms. Straight R.I?

Anyone care to weigh in this? Its accuracy, implications, or otherwise? We may need a moment to dwell on this ourselves…

    Let’s all rest the bullshit to the side, and just make a 4th title for the “Miscellaneous” category of people who “want to make a difference” by showing up at pride block parties and bingo charity events. Here’s some titles me and my friend threw around for a fictional “gender-magical” sex-secretive hermaphroditic person by the name of Mummenchance Barklay. Ideas, anyone?

    1. Non-Specific Pronoun Proclivity Ambiguous RI 2009, Mummenchance Barklay!
    2. It. RI 2009 Person Mummenchance Barklay!
    3. RI&Providence Plantations Representative of Gender or Lackthereof, Hrphdte. Mummenchance Barklay!
    4. Lady-then-man (or Man-then-lady) Right Honorable Gender-Mysterious RI 2009 Mastress Mummenchance Barklay!

    I suppose if none of these sound good we could think of something more glitzy! Or perhaps we could stop giving a shit and go outside and see how we could help improve ourselves and the world around us.

    I feel really bad cause i feel that i may have opened a nasty can of worms… i dont feel personaly that Divine shouldn’t hold the title of Ms. Gay R.I. Divine is a dream friend of mine, and i support everything she does. what i dont understand is the fact that the triple crown pagent was created to bring all forms and types of people within our community together. I just feel as a transgender woman myself that out of the GLBT community the triple crown pageant mainly focuses on the gay and lesbian part. why arent the bisexuals (B) and the trannies (T) included? are we not worthy enough for a pageant, and thats what has made me say, HMMMM?

    DEAR WTF

    DRAGS QUEENS IS PART OF THE TRANSGENDER UMBRELLA….look it up miss thang.

    The transgender umbrella is a huge one which includes DRAG QUEENS , non-op, pre-op, post-op, gender queer, cross-dressers, part-time, full-time; it’s all about one’s gender idenity not sexual orientation

    aloha

    Divine’s talent was an expression of her culture with being hawaiian & mahuwahine (Hawaiian Transgender). She was wanted to share who she is in dance and song to rhode island. For in the hawaiian culture , we are accepted & have a place among in society.

    As for transition ? Yes, it’s included in the mission statement of RI Pride…Her job is now to make a difference in the GLBTQ community by being a role model , to raise needed funds for the non profits of rhode island , southern mass, and on national ……..Give her time …..to make a difference with the crown

    WTF… Heres the question on my mind really If we must under GLAAD except Sara as a Lesbian becuase she is in transition and obviously loves women then why in hell would I accept Divine as a gay male IF and I STRESS IF she too is in transition. I personaly feel that what RI loves a Drag queen is different than the norm. ALl through out the year of fundraising and compaigning for the title Rocky Kitty and many others told us to accept it as thats what others do in the pageant world. Well the last time I checked we were not connected to any other pageants in this country or world for that matter and WTF is this shit about going with the status quo. If we did that we might as well say we will never get married never be allowed the same rights as our fellow citizens becuase right now the status quo is to put the GLBTQ community BACK in the closet and pad lock the door so we can never emerge again. Ms Gay RI is a DRAG QUEEN TITLE not a transgendered one!!!!

    Personally, I think Deja should have been the winner. Her performances and outfits were much more original, not something taught on a beach in Hawaii. And if they are going through all these changes..who the hell knows if they are gay or str8 anymore?? Are we going to ask them to prove it?? Be glad someone runs so that pride makes enough money to have such big names perform on that stage :-P

    SINBOY ADVICE – PLEASE do not try this at home!! I have and I broke alot of shit around the house. Angela was at work and I decided to go into her closet – I pulled out everything and played dress up with the dresses, 8 inch pumps, corsets, wigs and even the boobies! She had no idea I was in her shit until I had to explain all the broken furniture. I say leave this stuff to Maureen.

    The top two are believed to be transitioning… Deja and Divine. However; as long as Divine wants to represent the gay community in the most responsible way, I see no problem with her having the title. Also; Pride has a mission statement and it includes the transgendered population, so I don’t think anybody has any ground to stand on there.
