As is my way; I’m taking the less popular stance on this to say I agree with BJ. It may be fun to be snarky and callous on here; saying this one is a drunken mess or this one looked like shit in last season’s dress… but it’s not okay to spew damaging slanderous and yes, libelous drivel under the umbrella of “fun”. Using something such as a deadly illness is not only disgusting, but it portrays you in such a way that you think the illness is something that should be insulted. Sort of like going up to a person who’s homeless and pointing and laughing. It’s not okay. There are people in this community who bust their ass to raise money for these causes, so it’s important to remember that while we all go out and have fun at these fundraisers; and may even laugh at people who act silly or dress silly, that underneath it all is a serious goal and sense of purpose. We all may point and laugh at each other; but we shouldn’t insult each other for things that are tragic; like HIV or cancer or poverty… It’s just poor show.

The owners/moderators of this site might want to edit the comment section a little more vigilantly. Speculating about someone’s status regarding STDs is really questionable.

I guess Brent/Matt is a public figure, since he has performed on Corbin Fisher a bunch of times, but people who run blogs and publish information should take precautions to not libel people. From how I understand libel law, libel can be described as publishing something that is untrue, causes damage to the person about whom it is published, and is published with a reckless disregard for the truth.

Even though Brett/Matt is a public figure, if the entity that publishes (possibly) defaming information about him didn’t make an attempt to verify the information, that entity is being irresponsible and possibly opening itself up to legal liability. Since Brent/Matt has his phone number in his Rentboy ad, it certainly wouldn’t be difficult for the owners of this site to confirm the veracity of the statement in question which they published.

This blog is supposed to be a fun place to gossip and yuck it up about clubgoing about town. I understand how some people in the public and quasi-public eye need to be called out at times for their behavior, but please think about moderating the comment section of your blog in a responsible manner.
