let’s level here

So Sunday night we get to Chris Harris’s SUNDAYS @ LEVEL 2 around 11:30pm, and we have so say we were a little surprised to see it not all that busy (well, not that susprised). However, with no cover (’cause we were listed) and a free drink ticket at the door, we didn’t really mind all that much.

Within minutes though we had to skip over to the bar for the Madison Park performance, which was…entertaining.
Actually it was totally cute, Miss Gay South Shore (that exists?!) made herself part of the show with a cute little switcheroo act with Deanna (the chick from Madison Park).

Speaking of Mr. Gay and Miss Gay *cough-Buzzard’s Bay* South Shore… how did THAT shit happen?

As superficial as the gay community can be, none of it seems to show up in these popularity pageants, where it BELONGS. I mean, we’re no beauty queens, but DAMN (who does this voting shit anyway? — that’s what we’d like to know)

Regardless, there were actually less people at Mirabar, so once Deanna finished singing Ocean Drive, we hurried back over to Level 2 to find way more people than when we left, not counting residual straight Level 2 regulars.

You know, we’re not really big on writing things that sound like promotion, but when it’s right(for once), we’ve got to say so.

The music was good (Meadows and Dena are safe bets), the staff was totally friendly, even at the door(surprise), and the place was clean and looked cool. The drinks weren’t terribly priced either. The only thing missing was you.

Chris Harris’s Myspace invite says it’ll be on again this Sunday, so your asses better get there next week (we already told you, work is NOT an excuse not to come).

Weekend in Review

We were so hungover Saturday during the day that we didn’t get the chance to talk about Friday. No matter because nothing really happened anyway.

We went to the bar, and although it was decently busy and the music was normal-fabulous, we just kept the drinks going down and never made it anywhere else.

Saturday night was a totally different story.

The city overall was busy and we had to use one of our secret downtown parking spaces where we always stand the chance of being towed, but whatever. We started this one at Mirabar, which was packed as usual for a Saturday night. Was it the nice weather? Because we saw some people out that we NEVER see.

Did you go to the bar for the first time on Saturday?

The place quickly tired though and we soon sleazed on over to Dark Lady. You know, we have this love/hate thing with the Dark Lady. I mean we love Madonna (like, a lot, like everyone else), and we love dancing to her songs and knowing all the words and shit; but what DJ plays the entire uninterrupted(sometimes unmixed) soundtrack from her Confessions tour for the last two hours of the night?

As if that wasn’t odd enough, the video screens were playing the video of the Madonna tour, but the video was running 3 songs behind the audio (picture Madge singing Like A Virgin in a steel cage to a dancer in a burka). Well whatever, we agreed it wasn’t the worst thing that’s ever happened.

It was around 2am when we started hearing about a not-so mega-suck night over at ENTOURAGE, with guest DJ Uniek, who we loved over at Diesel and can’t believe we missed(find yourself a steady home, bitch!). Wouldn’t you know it, the one night we actually forget about even going, and it’s steady.

If you were there, give us the story!

Next came an extreme rarity — we were just *cough* tipsy(and sleazy) enough to not want to give up the night, and we decided we needed Therapy. We hardly ever go, and it seemed like a good idea at the time — and you know we weren’t trashed because that shit is so hard to get to, we can barely find our way there sober. We haven’t been in a while and it was totally the same, the music was good though, DJ Rocksteady pushing that rough-soulless-electro-rolling-balls feel, which was fine, and it was busy!

The only place we know of that’s still jumping at 3:30am.

Tonight? We’re going to check out the Madison Park performance over at the bar, and hit up Chris Harris’s SUNDAYS@LEVEL 2.

What else is there to do?

P.S. Did anyone go to Kitty’s party over at the Federal Reserve last night?

level2

We saw this the other day and had to comment.

After some *cough* interesting offerings from Chris Harris Presents, we’re actually totally excited for a weekly night like this. It’s not going to interefere (only add to) with our normal schedule, and it’s a worthy replacement for Diesel’s Sundays. Plus, everyone already knows where it is on account of last weekend; so there’s no excuse for your ass not to be there (work is NOT a valid excuse, you pussies).

However, the feeling we get from this flyer is not very gay (except for the two guys screwing in duotone in the background — but nobody’s going to see that as they’re using their wipers to get it off their windsheild). Not that it’s a problem, but Level 2 historically is definitely NOT gay.

So Mirabar first for a drink, then Sundays @ Level 2. Yes!

P.S. We wonder how Dena feels about her name sharing a type-size with that of Chris Meadows’, he he.

Henri, Some Girls

Henri √?????? Some Girls (Norty Cotto Champagne Club Mix)

This is a cover of the 2004 Rachel Stevens song of the same name. We loved this song then, even though it didn’t get any club play.

Hopefully this Henri bitch can crack the DJ booth with it.

Don’t you think she looks a little Lohan-ish?

There’s No Place Like Mirbar….

There’s no place like Mirabar… So say that 3 times while clickin’ your heels together and POOF!!!!

You are at Retro, which can only mean 1 thing…

It is Wednesday night in the budding metropolis we call Bitchidence. So was it memorable? Mmmm, not really. We were obviously shitfaced upon arrival, unfortunately it’s often the only way a gathering of the masses can be dealt with.√??

We wish there was a fight, you know, just to keep it interesting. There was not.√??But, what we did have was the same songs from last Wednesday (and the Wednesday before), played in almost the same order. This raises the question, is the dj booth on auto-pilot????

For the love of Christ man, i know the 80′s are over but there was 10 years involved there. All we require is for you to mix it up, thats what a dj does…

P.S. Did anyone get Dena a drink?

No bitch, show us YOUR tits.

Why do we do this to ourselves?

What awful turn of events led to us going out on a Tuesday?
We’re usually quick to say when things suck, but this was Tuesday, Fat as it was, and we knew nobody was going to be out. So we went to Energy, which was busier than expected; there were even drunk bitches with beads fussing about.

Before we skipped down to the bar (where we were shocked to find even less people), two of them asked us to show them our tits, to which we happily obliged. They got a little prudish when we tried to trade the beads back though. How far we still have to go…

Mardi Gras 2007

So, we started out the night meeting Danielle Bollinger & Co. for dinner and drinks (1) on the East Side. We meet performers every so often and find them all to be a totally chill breed, and Danielle was no exception. We also had the pleasure of meeting the unfortunately straight Dave Pezza, Friday night dj over at Pearl and one of Danielle’s songwriters.

Later on we joined up with them at Energy for a couple drinks (2, 3) before Danielle’s performance, and stayed to watch headliner Lucas Prata beach himself up on the second floor balcony. Don’t get us wrong, his performance was just fine (he even danced a little with his backup dancers); we just didn’t recognize any of the songs he sang. It was when he started on an acapella-intro of the 2005 O-Zone hit, Dragostea Din Tei, that we decided it was time to move this party a little further down the line.

So, we went over to Mirabar to check out their always-fabulous Mardi Gras party. We’ve gone every year and we were certain it was not going to disappoint, which is why we only stayed a few minutes for a drink (4) and some beads from Henry before hopping over to Level 2 for Chris Harris’s THE BIG EASY party.

Fortunately, a little birdie warned us ahead of time that Level 2 was going to stop admitting people at 1am, so we planned accordingly and made it just in time for the cops to show up and start enforcing.

We waited in line like everyone else, thankfully they had one of those outdoor heaters right there at the door to help with the cold blasts of air that sobered us up with every passing minute. Inside was a different story, and to our surprise, the place was packed. We’ve seen Level 2 busy before, and this was ultra-mega busy. Dena was spinning dance music in the front room which suffered from having no central dancefloor area, and Chris Meadows was doing hip-hop in the jam-packed back room. Everyone was out, including Kitty Litter and candidates for the Triple Crown, which we’re still really trying to fully understand the purpose of.

Then it was time for a some drinks (5,6) and shots (7,8,9). We took the time at this point to look past Chris Harris’s dismal weeklys to remember that when given enough time, he can really throw a bangin’ party (despite the new venue, new Level 2 crew, and mishandled licensing from the city). Wait, what was that last part?

Oh yeah, the cops were crawling all over the place after 2 or so, and once we finished our drinks, we jetted off to an after-hours party in Providence around 2:45, which we later found out was not a minute too soon.

Around 3am at Level 2, the cops started hearding (“like cattle”) the big, easy club-goers into Dena’s room, and at 3:30a, the fire alarm went off prompting an immediate evacuation of the building. Chances are the cops pulled it themselves (otherwise, why would 2 cruisers have been seen fleeing the scene right when the alarm went off?), and the entire Providence Fire Dept showed up to inspect the premises. Sorry we missed that.

All in all, we spent so much time running around the city, we forgot to collect those damn beads! We looked like such cold fish at the end because we had like 4 strands each (plus we gave some away for various “reasons”). Better luck next year.

Sunday, Sunday, SUNDAY

February 18th, 2007 No comments

So Saturday night started out at the bar. On account of the bigger night on Sunday, it took most of the night for the place to fill up, but fill up it did.

We also paid a visit to Chris Harris’s SLOW DEATH, which looked rather promising….for about 30 seconds. Then the bitch closed down at 1! For real, if free liquor isn’t enough to get gay Providence into the damn place, I don’t know what will work. May I suggest a change of name/venue/drink prices/music? Actually, the music was the best of all three nights so far, DJ’d by Tony T.

Anyway, then we went back to the bar where we learned some exciting news.

Danielle Bollinger (Kiss The Sky, When Broken Hearts Love Again, You’ll Always Have Me) just happens to be in town this weekend with her songwriter and offered to perform at Mirabar’s Mardi Gras party tonight! In addition, Danielle will also be opening for Lucas Prata at Energy before her Mirabar performance. You know we’re not missing any of that, plus we hear the bitch is JACKED.

Of course, we’ll also be over at Chris Harris’s The Big Easy at Level 2, which we believe will suck but we’re hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

Now we know that Energy has been less and less associated with Chris Harris Presents, but wouldn’t it make sense for Lucas Prata to be over at Level 2 tonight? A bigger venue, potentially more people and it’s a damn Mardi Gras party!

What are they thinking? Do YOU know?

Friday night was a rarity, and we ended up at XL, the male strip club down on Allens Ave. (featuring the slightly effeminate Blake Riley) For whatever reason, this place is special because the guys take off ALL of their clothes and let their cocks swing around.

Maybe I’m missing something, but isn’t that how its supposed to be? I mean, the female strip clubs do that already, don’t they (- the penises)?

Overall, this place is made for sucking up money and not much else, starting right when you walk in the door ($15 cover). Well, I guess if you made it down to Allens Ave. on your own, you’re not going to let some silly giant cover stop you now. Inside, it’s decorated like a Cheesecake Factory but with strippers, which is totally cool.

We only let go of a few dollar bills for fun before we left the street where Batman’s parents were killed and made our drunken way back to civilization.

There, we found Mirabar as it was when we last saw it. Although we did notice this time all of the erotic art taken off the walls on account of an effort to repaint the entire interior with fire-proof paint, which we didn’t even know existed. Go, um…safety.
